Chelsea are close to agreeing a £16 million deal with Hamburg for midfielder Rafael van der Vaart.The Dutchman, a goal-scorer and playmaker, has been lined up to replace Frank Lampard and Michael Ballack, who could both be on their way at the end of the season.
Despite uncertainty over the position of manager Avram Grant, the move for Van der Vaart has been powered by Chelsea's sporting director Frank Arnesen, who spent most of his career in Holland.
